Sorry, Joe Rogan May Be a Visionary
Its funny we live in a world where you have to think about the 10 different ways someone might interpret not what you write about, but the fact that you might mention a specific person. And with that I want to talk about Joe Rogan.
Specifically this Joe Rogan from 1998 on the Conan O'Brien show. What I see in him, especially in the context of videos like this, is a guy who totally marched to the beat of his own drum since very early on, and did it with great belief.
Rogan talks about the UFC being 'awesome' and 'a total freak show'. It was a freak show back then. Not many rules and no weight classes. But now its one of the fastest growing sports in the world, and Rogan is a big part of it.
So he understood the appeal of the UFC when what it is today was just a glint in Uncle Dana's eye. But that's not all. He was also thinking and talking about long form discussions way before podcasting was a thing. And he stuck with it and now has one of the biggest podcasts in the world. Whatever you think about the guy, he saw key parts of the future - long form podcasting and combat sports - before most anyone else, and he went all in on both of them.
Visionaries come in all shapes and sizes. They can even be people you dislike.
